Fighters & Coaches Pick Winners

August 18, 2016 6:02 am Published by Leave your thoughts

Consistently picking winners and losers in MMA is pretty close to impossible. Think about all of the favorites who have been unceremoniously destroyed by underdogs. Who saw Georges St-Pierre getting knocked out by Matt Sera or Gabriel Gonzaga KO’ing Mirko Filipovic via head kick? Just in the last year, Holly Holm dominated and then destroyed Ronda Rousey, then she was stopped by Jessica Tate, who went on to get spanked by Amanda Nunes. Fabricio Werdum out boxed and destroyed Cain Velasquez. Anthony Pettis was a 5 to 1 favorite against Rafael dos Anjos, Luke Rockhold was 6 to 1 vs Michael Bisping .

The point is, the best odds makers in the world FREQUENTLY get it wrong in the world of MMA. I say all of this because we will be running a monthly feature in our Blog: Fighters and Coaches Pick Winners. Many of us are going to get it wrong, I know I will. Feel free to visit the blog before all fights and then just bet the opposite way I bet, statistically it looks like a pretty good way to go.

Pick: McGregor over Diaz

Quote:  “Precision will be the difference.”

Pick: Johnson over Teixeira

Quote: “Just a better striker.”

Pick: Cerrone

Quote: “He’s just better at 170 lbs.”

OGIC (Old Guy in Charge) Eric Nolan

Pick: McGregor

Quote: “In round 1 McGregor looked like he had the skills to get it done. Round 2 he started believing his press and trying to walk Diaz down. If he’s learned his lesson he will fight a more tactical fight and maybe get a late round KO. Then again, I’m not a Diaz fan, so maybe it’s my heart and not my head talking.”

Pick: Johnson over Teixeira

Quote: “Both really solid fighters. Both huge hitters. Johnson is a better wrestler and his power is on another level. Then again with two guys this explosive, both will have a chance until the last bell rings.”

Pick: Cerrone over Story

Quote: “Both complete fighters without glaring flaws. But, Cerrone looked amazing in his last fight. He looked comfortable in his skin and completely prepared. If this is who shows up, it’s his fight to lose.”

Ok everyone, that’s our picks. Cerrone and Johnson across the board and McGregor is seen as a favorite here in spite of their last fight. I highly recommend that you go out and bet the farm on our picks. But, only if you really want to lose a farm.
